Fuck!! I knew I bought the wrong gaming system!! Xbox 360 -- exhausted?

Could Xbox 360 games already be approaching the technical limits of the console? According to Epic's Rod Fergusson, senior producer of one of the Xbox 360's biggest upcoming fall releases, maybe so.

Fergusson's comments came in an interview with industry publication Gamasutra, which quizzed him on the current state of technical development on the 360. "I think we're certainly approaching the upper end of it, as far as what developers are able to do," he said.

Gears of War 2, Fergusson's current project, is planned to release on November 7, almost three years after the Xbox 360 first hit streets in North America -- and if Fergusson is right, it could set the graphical high water mark for this generation.

But it's worth noting, too, that games released late in a console's lifespan often prove to be among its best. The PlayStation 2 in particular had a run of superb releases even as hype built for its successor, bringing us great games like Shadow of the Colossus and God of War 2. Even the original Xbox, though its time in the spotlight was cut somewhat short, continued to receive new games for a full year after the 360 came along.
